The Adoption Exchange |
The Adoption Exchange is a non-profit child welfare organization founded for the purpose of ensuring that all children have safety and permanence in their own homes. Its mission is to provide the connection between families who adopt and children who wait. The agency has a twenty five-year-history of finding families for more than 5,000 children with “special needs.” The children are survivors of abuse and neglect or children living with the threat of a parent’s imminent death. The Adoption Exchange works extensively with television and print media to tell their stories in an effort to recruit adoptive families.
The Adoption Exchange has offices in five states (CO, NM, UT, NV and MO). Eight states purchase membership in The Exchange in order to list their waiting children, receive training and technical assistance, and participate in annual meetings where legislative updates, policy changes and practice issues are shared and discussed. All offices provide resource and referral services for professionals and families, and three offices provide post-adoption support services. Training for professionals and families occurs through the Colorado, Missouri, Nevada, Utah and New Mexico offices, in addition to Oklahoma, South Dakota and Wyoming.
