Description: This is the third of a four-part, competency-based Core Curriculum for new Child Welfare Caseworkers. This four-day module will explore the developmental consequences of child abuse and neglect, establish a framework for the early recognition of developmental problems, and illustrate the importance of including developmental and remedial services in child welfare case plans. Topics covered will include: the stages of cognitive and psychosocial development in children through adolescence and the negative effects of abuse and neglect on a child’s development. Caseworkers will also learn to utilize developmentally appropriate interviewing skills and establish rapports with children of various ages.
