Description:
In order to improve the educational outcomes for children in the child welfare system, greater coordination needs to occur between the child welfare and education systems. This one and one-half day training helps to broaden the knowledge and enhance the skills of caseworkers and supervisors so they can advocate more effectively for the educational needs of the children they serve. Children in the foster care system face many more barriers to educational success than other children. Barriers such as stability, transitioning into new schools, enrollment issues, special education and other educational needs creates many obstacles for children to be successful. Each participant will receive a manual, Advocating for the Educational Needs of Children in Out-of-Home Care to be used in their daily practice.
